A double structure clay pot with an inner and outer lid. The inner lid can precisely measure a single portion of rice and water. It can also be used for boiled eggs, steamed vegetables, cheese fondu, single serving hot pot and a wide variety of dishes.
The trick? The lid can be used as a rice bowl!
You may wonder why use a clay pot to cook rice? It is the secret in making the rice cooked evenly and to taste the sweetness of the crop.
Kamacco uses pottery from Mashiko. The soil in the area is rich in silicate and iron, making it easy to shape, fire-resistant and relativelt heavier than other Japanese pottery.

Our rice cooking tips:
(1) Use the inner lid (smaller) to measure one portion of rice;
(2) Rinse the rice 2-3 times in the water and shuffle it around with your hands until the water becomes clear. Let the rice sit for 30 minutes in the cold water before cooking;
(3) Empty the water, and place the rice into the pot. Use the inner lid to measure and pour in one portion of water for the rice (tip: cover the tiny steam hole on the lid with your finger when using it as a measuring cup);
(4) Cover the inner lid then the outer lid;
(5) Cook the rice for about 20 minutes over the lowest heat possible;
(6) The pot will start steaming after approximately 15 minutes;
(7) When the rice is almost done, less steam will be visible;
(8) Turn off the heat and let the rice sit with it still covered for about 10 minutes.
And then before you know it, you can enjoy your perfectly cooked rice!
Friendly Reminders:
1) Before initial use, wash the pot carefully by following the steps below:
Step 1: Fill the pot to the inner line with rice water (i.e. Water that has been used to wash rice);
Step 2: Place the pot to low heat for about 10 minutes;
Step 3: Allow the water to cool;
Step 4: Wash the pot and dry it thoroughly to avoid stains and mould.
This will make the pot more durable.
2) Before putting the pot over any heat, dry the outside surface completely, especially the bottom;
3) After use, wash the pot carefully by hand and ensure it is dried thoroughly;
4) Do not leave the pot in water and/or leave it to soak for too long;
5) Do not wash in a dishwasher
